Volunteer Opportunities
We need your help! Experience the pleasure and camaraderie of volunteering at Graycliff. Use your unique skills…or develop some new ones while helping to preserve and restore an architectural masterpiece.
If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know!
Here are a few options…or suggest your own:
Docent/Guide
Interested in learning more about architecture, history, and Frank Lloyd Wright? Would you like to share the knowledge you gain with visitors from Western New York and around the globe?
Graycliff offers tours to visitors from Western New York and around the globe year-round, but especially during the spring, summer and fall.
Each Graycliff tour is led by a volunteer docent, or tour guide—and a prime reason why more visitors arrive each year—through word of mouth about our stellar Docents.
Graycliff offers docent training so that you will be able to lead a tour of the lovely Graycliff estate with knowledge of the architecture and history, basic skills as a guide, and, not least of all, confidence.
There will be no fee for this course. However, we do ask a commitment to give at least 4 tours during the tour season.
We cordially invite you to join us in introducing Graycliff to our own community, and to the world.
If you are fluent in a language in addition to English, we would particularly appreciate your help!
If you are already a docent at another organization, even better! Docents make the best docents. We invite you to think about giving tours of Graycliff as well. You will find Graycliff’s architecture to be fascinating, and at the same time, you will be able to direct visitors to other sites who otherwise might have missed them.
The Green Team
Enjoy nature and help restore a historic landmark--all at the same time! Join Graycliff's Green Team of gardeners and grounds keepers to help keep our 8.04 acres of grounds and gardens attractive to visitors from throughout the world. Help us preserve and maintain the gracious park-like setting of this magnificent jewel on the lake. Lovely location on a bluff high above Lake Erie in a country-like setting, yet only 20 minutes from downtown Buffalo. Your help will be appreciated whether you like to work with others, or if you prefer to enjoy nature as you volunteer in a quiet corner of the estate.
Expertise in gardening appreciated, but not necessary. There are many different tasks to be done in maintaining our extensive grounds, ranging from equipment repair to digging to weeding to trimming. Whatever your interests or skills, if you enjoy the out-of-doors and fresh air, come give us a hand.
Pavilion Volunteer
Do you enjoy working with people? Pavilion volunteers send out mailings, take tour reservations, answer questions about tours and directions, and just generally welcome and assist our many visitors. Come join our happy team! We especially appreciate those who can give a few hours each week.
Gift Shop Volunteer
If you have a background in retail, our visitors would appreciate your help with gift shop purchases and answering questions.
Historic House Team
If you've been keeping house for many years, you might have just the right skills to help restore and maintain Frank Lloyd Wright's Graycliff. Our historic buildings need tender loving care, and your assistance in dusting, vacuuming and the like would be greatly appreciated. Adopt a room or two, or just come in periodically and see what seems to need tidying!
